How do I operate the wine opener?

With your hand on the bottle, make full, frequent strokes and the cork should pop out in 5-10 pumps (less once you get the hang of it). Make sure you're not grabbing the guard!

How do I get the cork off of the needle?

There is an acrylic plate that shakes around loosely on the guard and sits under your newly popped corks - this plate's sole purpose is to get that cork off of the needle. All you have to do is just push the plate towards the tip of the needle with two thumbs, and the cork will come off. Your index and ring fingers go on the end of the guard to stabilize the force.

What kind of bottles can the Genius Wine Opener open?

The Genius Wine Opener is guaranteed to work on any standard 750ml round wine bottle with corks up to 55mm in length.

It won’t be compatible with any non-round bottle shapes or any unusually-long corks over 55mm.

Does it work on synthetic corks?

Yep! The Genius Wine Opener works great with common synthetic corks. The opening process is exactly the same as with ordinary corks.

The opener is not compatible, however, with any bottles that utilize hard plastic corks.

Will using an air-pressure opener "bruise" my wine?

Definitely not.

How do I remove pieces of cork from the wine opener?

  1. Jiggle the small piece of cork in the opening with a pin or thumb tack. Make sure your fingers are safely out of the way of any sharp device you use.
  2. Place the Genius Wine Opener guard-face down on a stable, hard surface (like granite) that can handle pressure. Floors and kitchen countertops work well.
  3. Grab the wine opener by the guard. This is the only time you should be grabbing the wine opener by the guard - never grab the wine opener by the guard when opening bottles.
  4. Give the wine opener small pumps of force. Increase pressure, making sure that your surface is still stable.
  5. If there is no give, do not apply full body weight - simply repeat from the first step and it will give.

NOTE: Do not get the cork wet! It will expand in the needle and you will have to wait for it to dry.

We are not liable for any injuries incurred from advice given here. We do not recommend applying extreme pressure to the Genius Wine Opener. Always operate and repair the wine opener in a safe environment. Do not apply your full body weight to the wine opener at any time. Always use the wine opener on a stable surface. Do not lift your feet off of the ground when applying pressure to the wine opener.
